POLICE BRUTALITY

Police brutality is a term used to describe the use of excessive or inappropriate force by a police officer or officers. This could be from physical force, assaults, verbal attacks, or threats by state and local police, sheriff officers, federal agents, or correctional officers.

We represent victims of police beatings and injuries due to an officer's excessive force. Police Misconduct is included in police brutality. Police Misconduct can happen during routine stops or detentions, following the pursuit of a suspect, or in jails or prisons. Types of misconduct/brutality include:

  • false arrest;
  • shootings;
  • death or injury while in custody;
  • rape;
  • physical assault;
  • harassment;
  • intimidation;
  • racial profiling;
  • denying medical care;
  • political repression;
  • surveillance abuse;
  • sexual abuse; and
  • police corruption.

Abuse by law enforcement officers in the United States is one of the most serious and troublesome human rights violations in the country. There are set levels of force that a police officer is allowed to use depending on the situation. Officers must abide by these standards of force.
