Ms. Plotkin has been intimately involved in the day-to-day management and trial process of numerous cases that have resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements, including a $2.5 million settlement in Supreme Court, New York County, in a medical malpractice plastic surgery case for a man who underwent improperly performed elective calf augmentation surgery that resulted in an above-the-knee amputation of his right leg; a $2.1 million settlement for a medical malpractice suit involving a doctor who failed to properly monitor a premature infant resulting in brain damage; a $1.9 million settlement for the parents of a young girl who died at nine years of age after developing full-blown AIDS due to a contaminated blood transfusion given at the time of her birth in 1984, before blood testing for the HIV virus became available; and a $1 million settlement for an infant who suffered limitation of use of her right arm due to an Erb's palsy at the time of her birth.
Recently Ms. Plotkin was recognized as one of the top lawyers in the New York Metropolitan area in the New York Times edition of Super Lawyers. Ms. Plotkin is also an active member of the legal community. She currently serves as a Director of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association; as a Judge for the National Moot Court Competition sponsored by the American Trial Lawyers Association; as a Member of the Volunteer Committee of Attorneys Representing Victims of the World Trade Center Disaster on a pro bono basis; and as a member of the prestigious Judicial Screening Panel. Ms. Plotkin is also a member of the esteemed panel of the Legal Referral Service of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Her professional affiliations also include membership in the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Bronx County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
Ms. Plotkin lectures extensively and offered a seminar for other attorneys regarding wrongful death issues surrounding the World Trade Center Disaster at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She recently appeared as a guest lecturer for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and is scheduled to give a lecture at the request of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York on the topic of medical malpractice. Ms. Plotkin was recently appointed to a Special Panel convened by the State of New York studying the advantages and disadvantages of requiring mandatory mediation panels in civil cases in the State of New York.
Ms. Plotkin volunteers her time in the community as a member of the Executive Committee of the East Midtown Coalition for Sensible Development, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring reasonable development of property in New York City, and is the President of her condominium board.
